Juggling Kids and Canvases

As a work-at-home mom, I perform a wide variety of tasks throughout the course of a day. Most of these tasks are simple when taken by themselves, but when you combine them all together in the space of a single day, things can get a little chaotic.

Changing a diaper: simple (some diapers are more complicated than others, I'll grant you that).
Catching a tossed object: usually pretty simple
Painting: calm, quiet work, albeit mentally intense sometimes.
Cooking: sometimes a bit hectic depending on where you're at in preparing the meal.

Abandoning your paint palette to change one of "those" diapers and trying to act quickly before the acrylic dries; in the meantime, dodging an object tossed by the other child (since you can't catch it while changing the diaper) and hearing the timer for the oven go off indicating that the dish needs to come out: NOT SO SIMPLE.

Juggling kids and canvas can be tricky.

Autumn Memory Nearly Finished

My first small painting is nearly done.  "Autumn Memory" is 10"x8"x1.5" acrylic on canvas.
This is a detail shot of a small portion of that painting.

Also, I've been asked to design someone's wedding invitations!  These will actually be done in watercolor, so that will be different for me.  I like the watercolors, however.  I may need to do some more designs in watercolor just for the heck of it.

Yellow Rose on its Way, and Also Smaller Paintings

"Yellow Rose 1" is in the making.  There is a possibility of renaming it, depending on a couple things, but I'm pleased with its progress so far.  I seem to be getting the hang of acrylics a little better.  Also in the planning is smaller paintings (and therefore some paintings for lower prices!) in addition to my usual medium-sized paintings.

As a side note, I'm getting a Canon Rebel probably next week.  This should really help with things.

Here is "Yellow Rose 1"

"Pink Daisy 1" almost finished

"Pink Daisy 1" is nearly done.  Just some detail work left.

Back in the swing of things

Alright, after a brief respite, I'm back in the swing of things.  January's members' show was an exciting first public appearance, and I anticipate good things for February's show this Sunday.  This month, I will be showing "Red Rose 2" (which would make a fabulous Valentines Day gift for that very special someone).

Also in the works is my upcoming website, where I will be making some products available for purchase. Initially, I will offer greeting cards and coffee mugs.  I personally would love a coffee mug with "Pink Daisy 1" on it.

In the meantime, I'm planning "Pink Daisy 2."

Fun times ahead!

Starting off the New Year!

Happy New Year 2012 to everyone!

I'm thrilled to be entering my first show this month at the Ocean County Artists Guild!  The show/opening is Sunday, Jan 8., from 1pm to 4 pm.  I will be showing Red Rose 1.

I've been reading and learning quite a bit lately, and hope to benefit from what I've learned.

I've also been reminded of how shy and awkward I can be sometimes when conversing with people I'm unfamiliar with.  This opening could be funny (in a fun way, I hope).

As I was bringing my acrylic painting in to enter it into the show, I saw some others bring in some very nice pieces.  Just from the watercolor paintings I saw, I might want to bring a bit of spending money myself!  I'd love to see you all there!
